Privacy Policy

Novel Star (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the website at novel-star.com and the Novel Star mobile applications (together, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to the terms below.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and a hashed password. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email, and profile photo from Google.

Reading activity. We store the books and chapters you open, your reading progress, ratings you submit, and which books you have unlocked, so we can keep your place and personalize recommendations.

Device identifiers. We generate a per-browser identifier and (in the mobile app) a per-install identifier so we can attribute reading progress and purchases across sessions without requiring an account.

Payment information. If you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe (on the website) or by Apple / Google (in the mobile app). We do not see or store your card details — we only receive subscription status and the last four digits.

Diagnostic and usage data. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps), pages viewed, and ad interactions.

How we use information

To operate and improve the Service, provide customer support, fulfill subscriptions, remember your reading place, serve and measure advertising, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and browser storage (localStorage) for three purposes:

  • Strictly necessary — keeping you signed in, remembering your reading position.
  • Analytics — measuring traffic and feature usage.
  • Advertising — serving and measuring ads, including personalized advertising where you consent.

You can disable cookies in your browser, but parts of the Service may stop working. For EU/UK visitors, we display a consent banner where you can accept or reject non-essential cookies (including advertising cookies) under the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework v2.

Third-party advertising

We use Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager to serve advertisements on the website, and Google AdMob in our mobile apps. These services may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites and apps. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to the Service. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the Internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or, for more third-party vendors, the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page. For mobile, you can limit ad tracking in your device’s privacy settings (iOS App Tracking Transparency and Android Ad ID).

Third-party services we use

  • Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
  • Stripe — payment processing on the website.
  • Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing in the mobile apps.
  • RevenueCat — mobile subscription management.
  • Google Analytics — site traffic measurement.
  • Google AdSense, Google Ad Manager, Google AdMob — advertising.
  • Google Funding Choices — consent management for EU/UK advertising.
  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel — marketing attribution on the website.
  • AppsFlyer — mobile install attribution.
  • Facebook SDK — mobile app event attribution.
  • Vercel — website hosting.

Each of these processes data under its own privacy policy.

Children’s privacy

Novel Star is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Data retention

We retain account and reading data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time via our data deletion page. We may retain limited records (such as payment history) to meet legal or tax obligations after deletion.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, port, restrict, or delete your personal information, to object to processing, or to withdraw consent. EU/UK residents may have rights under the GDPR; California residents under the CCPA/CPRA. To exercise any of these rights, email jack@summitappmarketing.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes may also be announced via email or an in-app notice.
