Chapter 1 · Chapter 1
The email subject line made my coffee taste like acid: "Exciting News About Our Acquisition."
I stared at my screen, my hands shaking so badly I had to set down my mug.
This couldn't be happening.
"All staff, please report to the conference room immediately," my manager's voice crackled through the intercom.
I'd worked at Meridian Marketing for three years. Built campaigns that won awards. Earned my senior strategist title through late nights and pure determination.
And now someone had bought us.
The conference room buzzed with nervous energy. My best friend and desk neighbor, Jenna, grabbed my arm.
"Did you hear anything?" she whispered.
"Nothing."
Our CEO, Margaret, stood at the front looking pale. Defeated.
Next to her stood a man in a charcoal suit that probably cost more than my rent.
My heart stopped.
No.
No, no, no.
"Everyone, I'd like you to meet Dominic Kane," Margaret said. "He's the new owner of Meridian Marketing."
Dominic's ice-blue eyes swept the room and landed directly on me.
A slow smile curved his lips. Predatory. Possessive.
"I'm looking forward to working with all of you," he said, his voice smooth as expensive whiskey. "Especially those of you I already know."
His gaze never left mine.
Jenna leaned closer. "Why is he staring at you?"
Because Dominic Kane was my ex-boyfriend.
The man who shattered my heart into a million pieces two years ago when he chose his career over me and disappeared to London without a goodbye.
The man I'd spent twenty-four months trying to forget.
And now he owned my company.
